Raft on the river Sava

I captured a typical summer day on the river Sava in Belgrade. This kind of rafts are quite common there. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors, and are just beautiful object to paint.

I tried to convey a calm, nostalgic atmosphere. With the highlights on the house and I intended to suggest an early afternoon light Here I explored expressive but controlled brushwork, a style that I gravitate towards lately. The brushstrokes, like ones on the the foliage is loose, suggesting leaves without over-defining them, while the house and boat have crisper edges, which contrast the foliage and water and brings them forward as focal points.
